Driving Along the Ulsan Coast: From Ganjeolgot to Jeongja Port

The Ulsan coast isn’t limited to just one type of sea. At Ganjeolgot in the south of Ulju-gun, you can witness the sun rising above the horizon, while at Jinha, you can get close to the vast sandy beach and Myeongseondo. Gangyang Port offers a morning scene of fishing boats and mist, while Donggu's Jujeon and Bukgu's Jeongja show the features of the northern coast with round pebbles and ports.

If you drive from Ganjeolgot in the south to Jeongja Port in the north all at once, you might not have enough time for stops and walks. If your focus is on sunrise, consider Ganjeolgot, Jinha, and Seosangpo Fortress; if you are focused on coastal photography, choose Jujeon and Jeongja. Remember to check the sunrise time, wave heights, ongoing coastal road construction, and parking availability before you head out to avoid unnecessary roadside stops.

The journey along the Ulsan coast becomes richer when comparing the ports, sands, pebbles, and fortresses rather than just viewing the sunrise. The open horizon of Ganjeolgot, the fishing scenery of Gangyang Port, the sound of pebbles at Jujeon, and the seafood markets at Jeongja Port all utilize the same East Sea in unique ways. The southern coast can be complemented with the historic route to Seosangpo Fortress, while the northern coast can be a leisurely drive with cafes and short walks.

Even if the waves seem calm along the breakwater and rocky shores, sudden swells can occur. For photos, avoid standing in port work areas or along the edges of roads, and check the tidal conditions and official access regarding Myeongseondo. After driving in the early morning and considering sleepiness, be sure to include breaks, and during summer, follow the guidelines provided by lifeguards at the beach openings.
