Nanjing's modern face is more prominently displayed in Hexi, Zhangbei, and the Southern New Town than in Xinjeqiao. The curvilinear tower of the Nanjing International Youth Cultural Center, the waterfront performance venue of the Jiangsu Grand Theatre, and the red arch of the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center create entirely different night views even between just a few subway stops. This list focuses on ten places where it's easier to appreciate the shapes in public plazas and streets rather than viewing interiors.

Office, conference, and transportation facilities are not spaces operated for tourism. Check the security lines and passenger flow on event days, and only use tripods briefly in places that do not obstruct passage. It's realistic to bundle two or three spots in Hexi together and separate Zhangbei for another day. Follow the pathway outside the courts at the City Hall Yewei Square to avoid conflicts with exercise users.

The night view of the new city is not completed only at high observatories. Up close to the facade of the Nanjing International Youth Cultural Center, passing by the water reflection of the Jiangsu Grand Theatre, and walking through the axis of the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center brings the empty spaces between buildings and people’s movements into the photos. Nanjing South Railway Station and the Financial District are places where functions come first, so they should be observed at a different pace compared to tourist facilities.

If you're aiming for the blue hour, arrive at the public plaza 30 minutes before sunset and be cautious of reflections and slips on the glass facades after rainfall. Allow plenty of time to cross the river for the two spots in Zhangbei, and although City Hall Yewei Square is a 24-hour space, ensure safety for late returns. Instead of just collecting building names, recording one aspect of line, light, and usage will clarify the differences in the new city.
