The New Roadster Revealed: Five Things to Watch
A recap of the reveal event, the design, how the fans and thrusters work, and how the three configurations differ
We've organized it into five points: the official event video, the design, downforce, the cold-gas thrusters, and the differences between configurations. Technology and availability are described based on Tesla's official product information as checked on October 18, 2026, and we separate the manufacturer's feature descriptions from actual sales and usage conditions.

The key to understanding the announcement is the difference between the roles of the fans and the thrusters. The fans are used to generate force that presses the body toward the road, while the thrusters fire gas to add force to the car's movement. What the thrusters do also depends on where they are mounted. Thrust, with rear thrusters, and Rocket, with thrusters arranged around the car, were introduced as distinct configurations.

Aerodynamics concerns the forces created as air flows around the body. While the smooth placement of parts is a trait of the exterior, the fans in the next section are devices that directly control the air beneath the body. So the car's aero technology can't be fully explained by its looks alone. The revealed screen layout can be confirmed, but real-world usability such as ease of operation and visibility is hard to judge from these materials alone.
The Roadster's Fan-Based Downforce Technology
Unlike aero devices that rely on the airflow a moving car encounters, the fans move air on their own. That is why it is possible to describe them generating suction even when the car is stationary, and Tesla, too, highlights the car's ability to grip while standing still. This is the manufacturer's description, however, and actual grip performance depends on operating conditions such as the surface and the quality of the seal. The fans' role is distinct from the gas-fired propulsion covered in the next section.
The Roadster's Cold-Gas Thrusters
On the Roadster, hardware placement determines function. Thrust is the configuration that adds rear thrusters, while Rocket places thrusters around the car and is presented as capable of upward and sideways movement as well as attitude control. Unlike the fans, which draw air from under the body to create force toward the road, the thrusters add force depending on the direction in which gas is fired. Gas capacity, recharge intervals and running costs are not among the information verified in this list.

Roadster Performance, Thrust and Rocket Compared
The practical criteria separating the three are seat count, whether thrusters are fitted and where, and how each is offered. Notably, Rocket carries a notice that it is not approved for use on public roads. So describing Rocket's airborne movement as a standard feature of Performance, or presenting Thrust as a thruster configuration for ordinary roads, would be inaccurate. Whether it will be sold or certified in Korea cannot be determined from the wording on this overseas page alone.
Korean pricing, launch date, delivery schedule and road-use approval were not confirmed in this review. Reservation notices on overseas product pages are not the same as a confirmed Korean launch, and the feature descriptions published by the manufacturer do not represent independent performance test results.
