The Viewing Points of Zhangjiajie to Visit When the Light Changes

The Zhangjiajie Viewing Platform can be easily forgotten after a single visit during the day, as they all look similar. However, at Da guan tai, the morning light comes from the east, dividing the layers of the valley, and at Shen tang wan and Dian zhang dai, the density of the peaks becomes clearer when the fog is low. Places where walking is difficult and around the Sien Bridge can present sharper forms in the afternoon when the shadows of the forest and cliffs elongate.

This list is not strictly ranked based on sunrise timing but gathers points where one can wait for light within the actual mountain shuttle routes and walking paths. Avoid randomly entering before the park opens or lingering after the last shuttle. It's important to differentiate between sunrise views from accommodations and photography at the mountain viewing platforms while confirming weather, entry rounds, and return transport for safety.

While you can't reserve fog and sunset, you can decide in advance which direction to wait for the scenery. Da guan tai shows a wide valley and layers of peaks, Shen tang wan reveals a deep gorge and nearby craggy peaks, and Dian zhang dai presents a rhythm of aligned peaks. Even on cloudy days, documenting the damp forest and the clouds flowing close to the railings can capture a different expression of Zhangjiajie than on clear days.

To stay at the viewpoint until after sunset, ensure that your allowed stay time and actual return transport are both secured. Do not set up tripods at cliff edges or outside control zones, and do not obstruct other visitors' viewing spaces. If the clouds become thick and your sense of direction slips away, stop shooting and prioritize checking the shuttle stop signs, and prepare for slipping rather than solely relying on battery and waterproofing.
