A Collection of Gentle Summer Trekking Courses Perfect for a Relaxed Walk Together
Courses that are easy to adjust in distance and turning points according to companions' pace
When hiking with someone, the experience of comfortably returning together is more important than reaching the highest peak. Beginners, children, and families who haven't hiked in a while experience fatigue differently, even on the same trail. This list compiles actual trails that are relatively easy to turn back on or adjust speed, such as wide forest paths, short nature observation trails, and gentle temple trails. Instead of simply labeling them as easy, we focused on whether they are suitable to check on the condition of your companions.
Even gentle courses require preparation in the summer. If you take less water because it's a short trail or wear sandals and thin-soled shoes, you might find yourself uncomfortable on wet dirt paths and stone steps. Wear shoes that provide stability, bring a hat and personal water bottle, and check the location of restrooms before departing. If you're walking with kids, it's better to agree on snack and rest times in advance and set landmarks like interesting spots in nature, valleys, or cultural heritage sites rather than rushing their pace.
The estimated times in the list are reference values based on adult walking speeds, so if you include photo opportunities, sightseeing, or long breaks, it will take longer. For one-way courses, confirm transportation at the end point, and for round trips, establish a rule to turn back after half the predetermined time, regardless of the remaining distance. With options ranging from the short Aseungsengak (어승생악) and Geomnyongso (검룡소) to the relatively long Goddeoksan forest path, consider your companions' recent activity levels and the temperature on the day to make your choice. Don't forget to include break times in your schedule.

On days when you're walking together, it's important to frequently check the expressions and strides of those trailing behind. If someone suddenly speaks less, drags their feet, or their face turns excessively red or pale, prioritizing rest and heading back is essential, even before reaching the planned destination. What feels like a gentle slope to adults may be a challenging uphill trek for children. At every fork in the trail, check in with your group, and instead of the faster ones pushing ahead, have them wait at the next resting spot to prevent the group from splitting up.
It's better to take short, frequent breaks in the shade rather than sitting for long periods, as this helps keep the body from stiffening. Everyone should bring their own water and sip little by little, and instead of only preparing sweet snacks, bring easily digestible carbohydrates along with a bit of salt. When resting in nature observation areas or around temples, make sure not to block other visitors' paths and never feed wild animals. By sharing an attitude of reducing noise and litter with your companions, the walk itself becomes a wonderful outdoor lesson.
Not deciding on a specific endpoint to reach before you set off can also be a great strategy. If the view is poor or it’s too hot, you can just walk part of the forest path, or if it starts to rain, switch to a nearby indoor attraction. Even if a course is labeled as beginner or a stroll, the perceived difficulty can change based on weather and trail conditions. Follow on-site guidance and restrictions and adjust distances based on the condition of the slowest person. What’s important is that everyone feels like they want to walk together again in the future, rather than focusing solely on finishing the course. Returning together is the priority.
