Chuncheon is more than just a city to return from after eating dak-galbi; it’s a basin city where lakes, mountains, rivers, and museums are closely located. From the Samak Mountain Lake Cable Car, you can get a bird’s-eye view of Lake Uiam and the city, while the Soyang River Skywalk brings you closer to the river. While the Soyang River Dam and Cheongpyeongsa Temple are in the same northeastern region, they offer two completely different scenes: a massive hydraulic facility and a mountain temple.

This list features eight places that quickly convey the city’s representative image for first-time visitors to Chuncheon. If you try to fit the skywalk, Gongjicheon Park, museums, and the dam and temple in the outskirts all in one day, the travel time can get lengthy. It’s advisable to check the cable car operations, ship and bus connections, and museum closures before choosing just two areas to explore.

Soyang River Skywalk

This experiential facility extends over the Soyang River, providing a transparent observation area to closely view the river, bridges, and city. At sunset, the changing colors of the water and sky create an excellent opportunity to feel the image of Chuncheon as a water city, even during a brief stay. It may be closed during rain, ice, or strong winds, and you must follow the regulations regarding shoe covers and entrance.

Soyanggang Dam

Soyang River Dam

This site where the massive rock-fill dam meets Lake Soyang prompts thoughts about water management, energy, and local transportation changes. Walking along the top should be done in designated areas, and if you’re using the Cheongpyeongsa boat, be sure to check the dock times. Visibility may be affected by fog, strong winds, and vehicle restrictions.

Entering the temple along the valley and forest paths of O Bong Mountain adds layers to your journey with traces of a round gate and the Goryeo Garden, along with tales from Gyeongju. Access by road and the Soyang Lake boats varies in travel experience and time. Maintain silence in the prayer space and check boat/bus connections, valley path icing, and your final return time.

This representative park of Chuncheon has walking paths and resting areas along the riverside where Gongjicheon meets Lake Uiam. Korea National Chuncheon Museum

This national museum sets the timeline of Chuncheon and Gangwon Province through prehistoric and ancient artifacts, Buddhist art, and cultural relics. If you explore local history before visiting the lake, you’ll have a more dimensional understanding of the dam's construction and the submerged areas, as well as mountain transport. Chuncheon Bridge

This bridge connects the urban area and the direction of Hajungdo, creating a modern landscape that overlooks the surface of Uiam Lake, the islands, and the city of Chuncheon. Since it’s a vehicle bridge, avoid standing on the roadway or shoulder for photos; instead, view it from the nearby waterfront park or designated pedestrian areas. At night, you can enjoy the bridge lights along with the water reflections.

현지명 춘천대교 주소 강원특별자치도 춘천시 근화동 609 일대 경험 포인트 의암호와 하중도를 잇는 교량 야경 드라마 장면 극 중 한강대교로 표현된 장소의 실제 촬영지는 춘천대교다. 1화에서 공연을 마친 선재가 눈 내리는 다리 위의 솔에게 초록 우산을 씌워 주고, 이후 두 사람이 약속과 재회를 반복하는 핵심 공간으로 등장한다. 방문 전 확인 보행 가능 구역·차량·야간 안전 장소 이야기 춘천대교는 의암호의 중도와 춘천 도심을 연결하는 사장교다. 원형 주탑과 케이블이 특징이며 물 위로 열린 시야 덕분에 작품에서는 서울의 큰 강을 건너는 다리처럼 보였다. 방문 정보 다리는 차량 통행 시설이며 촬영 관광을 위한 전용 보행 공간이 아니다. 주변에서는 춘천역·근화수변공원·레고랜드 방향의 안전한 공공 공간을 이용해 다리의 전경을 볼 수 있다. 방문 포인트 드라마 장면처럼 차도에 멈추거나 다리 위에서 촬영하면 매우 위험하다. 도로 진입을 피하고 지정된 보행 동선과 전망 지점에서만 전경을 감상한다.

The purpose for visiting can vary each season by comparing the leaves, fruits, and winter buds of the trees, even beyond the blossoming period. Starting your first trip to Chuncheon by viewing the city from a height and then descending to the waterside and indoor spaces feels natural. After checking the topography of Uiam Lake from the Samak Mountain Cable Car, a walk around Gongjicheon or Chuncheon Bridge will show how lake life connects with city living. On the following day or a separate half-day, bundle the Soyang River Dam and Cheongpyeongsa Temple for a deeper immersion in the mountains and waters of Buksan-myeon.

Public transportation schedules between the outskirts can be infrequent, and the dam and temple areas might be affected by boats or narrow road conditions. Operations for the cable car and skywalk may change due to strong winds or ice, and the park and arboretum offer different seasonal attractions. Make sure to allow ample travel time, and if you calculate the last admission and return transport, you won’t have to rush through each place.
