Trails to Explore Waterfalls and Valleys of Seoraksan

The valleys and waterfalls of Seoraksan might look similar in terms of water scenery, but they have different approaches. Yuktam and Biryeong Waterfalls can be reached with a short stair hike, while Yangpok requires you to venture deep into Cheonbuldong Valley, and Sibi Seonnyeotang and Daeseung Waterfall come with a long ascent and descent. This list organizes eight representative water trails from the three regions along with the characteristics of each course.

The more water there is at the waterfalls, the more spectacular they become, but immediately after rain, the risks of falling rocks, rapidly flowing water, and slipping increase. Instead of rushing in right after a heavy rain warning, please check the status of the trails first. Do not enter the valley water or cross controlled lines, and it's safer to choose one course that suits your physical strength after determining the turnaround point and sunset time.

For light waterfall hikes, Yuktam and Biryeong waterfalls are great choices, while for a longer valley walk, Cheonbuldong and Suryumdong are ideal. If you want to see the amazing rocks of Namseorak along with Jujeonggol and Yongso Waterfall, they are a good match. The viewing platform of Towangseong Waterfall and Daeseung Waterfall are steep with distinct steps, so choosing them based on short distances could be misleading, and Sibi Seonnyeotang is a course that requires ample hiking time.

For valley explorations, prepare shoes with good grip, spare socks, and a waterproof jacket, and if you see signs of elevated water levels, immediately move to higher safe areas. Be particularly cautious of heat waves and sudden showers in summer, wet stones under fallen leaves in autumn, and icy conditions in winter. Adhering to site controls and entrance times is more important than spotting the best waterfall.
