A Farm Tour Along Jeju's Mid-Mountain Area
A drive connecting Jeju's farm culture from the western pastures to Highway 516 and eastern riding centers
Jeju's farms present a different side from coastal tourist attractions, showcasing the mid-mountain's unique characteristics. The wide pastures of Geumak, the sheep herds of Aewol, the Jeju horse grazing grounds along Highway 516, and the riding centers in Pyoseon and Seongeup reveal how horses, dairy cows, and the wind intertwine with island life in diverse ways. This guide compiles actual farms, grazing areas, and riding facilities across Jeju, making it easier to plan region-specific travels without needing to make round trips from the west, Jeju City mid-mountain, or the east.
Even though the maps show short distances on Jeju, fog and rain on the mid-mountain roads, coupled with the extended travel time due to parking at tourist spots, can affect your schedule. It's best to choose either the western or eastern regions for the day, connecting just two or three sites, and arrange the rest of your plans around the scheduled horse experiences. Since grazing areas are primarily research and breeding spaces rather than tourist facilities, be mindful of designated parking zones and avoid stepping outside the viewing areas, as well as stopping at the road's edge.

In the western region, you can explore Seongijidoll Farm, Jeju Sheep Farm, Derma Park, and Arion Riding School by subdividing your visits by area. In Jeju City’s mid-mountain area, Achim Miso Farm and the Jeju horse grazing site offer different dairy and horse landscapes. For the eastern region, it's more efficient to choose one riding center in Pyoseon or Seongeup based on your accommodation location. Even if the types of experiences seem similar, the details such as outdoor riding, round riding arenas, and performances differ.
The wind on Jeju can be unpredictable for both horses and people, and the temperature fluctuations and fog near Hallasan in the mid-mountain area can change rapidly compared to the coast. If the day's weather and horse conditions limit your experiences, it's better to prepare alternative activities like visiting an oreum or a museum than forcing consecutive visits to other riding schools. When renting a car, drive slowly on the farm access roads, do not feed the animals arbitrarily, or fly drones, and prioritize the passage of local residents and farm vehicles. Be sure to check the locations of gas stations in advance.
