Greenery Grows Where the Train Left

Gwangju's railway landscape cannot be summarized by just Gwangju Songjeong Station. By connecting urban Gwangju Station, the small Geumgang Station and Hyeocheon Station, and the now-closed Imgok Station, we can see how the railway passes through cities and villages. On the old Gyeongjeon Line, you can find the Green Path Park, preserved trains, and a low bridge, all contributing to a continuous walk for citizens along the tracks' memories.

This list selects eight specific points along actual stations and green paths, excluding Gwangju Songjeong Station and Nam Gwangju Green Path Park. Active stations prioritize passenger flow, while the abandoned stations mark the boundaries of railway sites, and parks prioritize residents' walks, each containing different photography etiquette and safety information. Checking operational information and weather conditions before visiting will give you time to find the right composition on-site.

Railway photography does not only come alive when you're close to the tracks. Look for the symmetry of the station facade, the repetition of the platform roof, and the long perspective of the old railway transformed into a park in publicly accessible walking spaces. Documenting active stations, abandoned stations, and regenerated parks from the same angle allows for a comparison of how Gwangju's transportation has transformed into urban greenery.

Even if trains and tracks are visible, do not enter railway facilities or cross safety lines. In the station, avoid capturing the faces of passengers and staff, and prioritize the movement of bicycles and residents on the green path. For places like Imgok Station, which is abandoned, it is essential to record from outside without entering the building's interior.
